How to fold shirts properly
Keep your shirts ready to wear by folding properly. Proper folding also maximizes your closets' and drawers' space. Folding your shirts properly also makes your clothes appear at their finest.
Here are some steps to follow to fold your shirts properly:
Get a clean shirt. If there are buttons on the shirt, start by buttoning it up first. If there are collars on your shirts you can either pull out the collar straight to conserve space.
Hold the top by the shoulder layers. You should shake it so the back & front of the shirt are aligned. When you are holding the shirt it should appear like it is hanging from an invisible hanger.
Put your shirt face down, on a smooth flat surface such as an iron horse or a table top.
TIP: using a thin plastic mat or cutting board or any piece of cardboard could make this process a lot easier.
Make sure that the front and back sides of the shirt are aligned so the seams would match. Smooth out the crinkles from top to bottom and from side to side so that when you put in your drawer it has fewer wrinkles and it would be ready to wear.
Press the shoulder seam in one hand. Using your free hand, get the sleeve and fold the sleeve into the middle of the shirt.
NOTE: You should do it without pulling in the sides of the shirts. When you are folding, it should form a straight line from the shoulder part to the bottom of the top. You could think about folding your sleeve in half or leave it unfolded.
Repeat the above procedure on the other part of the blouse. Smooth out any wrinkles while you are folding so there would be fewer, when you put on the polo shirt.
Hold the bottom right and left sides of the folded polo shirt. Put the bottom edge of the polo shirt up to the bottom of the sleeves. This would divide the shirt into thirds.
NOTE: You could fold the shirt twice or three times, depending on the size of your drawer.
Finish folding the top by bringing the folded edge to the top edge of the collar. Turn the shirt over and straighten any wrinkles.
NOTE: You should always straighten any wrinkles when your are folding because if not, you would leave a crumpled part on the polo shirt, and when you put in the storage the creased part would become very visible. Thus when you come to wear it, you would see a wrinkled part either on your sleeves or in your collar.
You can now put in your folded shirts in the drawer or in your suitcase.
Doing these steps in folding your shirts would not only conserve storage space but it also conserves time and energy. You would not need to iron your tops before wearing them and you would not need to worry about wearing wrinkly polo shirts. Even if you are at home your shirts clothing would surely look nice by folding them the proper way.
